Dr Lakshmi is a board-certified Primary Care, Infectious Disease and Functional medicine doctor and founder of My Direct Physician. She is also Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Education, with extensive experience in clinical medicine, chronic disease management, academic leadership, and public health.

She believes that health is our natural state and we can decrease the use of prescription medications and reverse chronic diseases by helping our patients develop healthier habits. She is passionate about empowering individuals to achieve optimal health and well-being naturally when possible. She believes in a proactive, personalized approach that combines the best of traditional and natural medicine.

With a deep commitment to patient-centered care, Dr. Lakshmi has served as an attending physician in multiple clinical settings, including Tampa General Hospital, Morsani General Internal Medicine Clinic, and My Direct Physician Clinic. She has been instrumental in developing innovative healthcare models that integrate preventive medicine, chronic disease management, and functional medicine to optimize patient outcomes.

An advocate for quality improvement, Dr. Lakshmi has led major hospital initiatives focused on antimicrobial stewardship, sepsis care, and infection prevention. She has also played a critical role in medical education, training internal medicine residents and medical students while contributing to national guidelines on healthcare-associated infections and preventive medicine.

Recognized for her leadership and contributions to public health, she has received multiple awards, including the American Dream Award for her work during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her expertise extends to functional and contemplative medicine, where she integrates holistic approaches into primary care.
